The door to the Vaidya home stays open and the kids come and go as they please.

A Mumbai tabloid has asked Mumbaikars to support Abhijeet. Rustom is not pleased with this. "Maharashtrians will vote for their lad and the rest of the country will support the other boy," he says. "As it is, people are divided on the basis of language."

He works for the Maharashtra State Electricity Board while Rahul's mother is a housewife. Last week, she watched the show when it was being recorded.

When the show ends, Rahul sings for his family and friends. It is the song he had prepared for the final.

The 17 year old has bagged a Rs 20 lakh contract with Sony. Anu Malik, one of the judges on Indian Idol has promised him a song to launch his singing career.

He may have missed being the Indian Idol, but Rahul Vaidya seems set to become one of India's idols.
