You didn't enjoy much box-office success last year. Does that bother you?

Does it look like it? I am an actor and I am thankful that I've got multiple experiences. I have not entered the industry today. I have worked with a lot of directors. People remember my performances. I may have a handful box-office hits only. But my work has been recognised. My work has got its due.

I thank my audience, critics and my filmmakers for that. I want to remain true to my craft and depict as many women as I can. Movies like Raincoat were meant to draw attention and my critics and audiences have given me overwhelming response.

Chokher Bali, a Bengali film, also got its due. A lot of write-ups appear on rediff.com and one knows about it.

I was working with a British filmmaker for an English market in an English film, Bride And Prejudice. And it did what it wanted to do in the British market. I am happy with the response. It was my introduction to critics overseas and they have been very encouraging and appreciative. I am not being defensive. I have been given the thumbs up. That is reassuring.

If it hasn't appealed to Indian viewers, it is because Bride… was built on a different level of expectations. Audiences here may expect a different kind of film. You never know the answers. The entire film fraternity is constantly searching for answers to what will appeal to our audience.
