Just about 12 to 14 years ago we couldn't make a trunk call, we were yelling on the phones, you couldn't hear clearly, it would take hours, you would have to do a lightening call if it was very urgent and pay eight times the cost. But today even small villages have phones, we have cell phones and all kind of automobiles but all this development seems restricted to cities.
It is very sad.
I feel cinema has a huge role to play in educating people, in making them aware, in creating values in a society. I don't deny entertainment -- entertainment is a very important part of life. It is very important to laugh but what kind of laughter?
On his forthcoming films
I was supposed to shoot in Vancouver in September for a nice Punjabi film but unfortunately the dates changed to October. I was very upset because October I had committed to another filmmaker Gopi Desai. She's a young filmmaker who has made two children's films, the film was being produced by Das music. Now Das music has also changed their date, I don't know when they will shoot. I had asked them, are you sure you will shoot in October, they said they were dead sure. So now both films are gone. It is quite upsetting because both films were good but what can be done.
Now, November-December is going to be Priyadarshan. Then I was dubbing for Hangman and doing a lot of publicity of King Of Bollywood. I have 15 scripts lying from India which are typed and bound but have no substance. There were two-three foreign offers which I couldn't honour because of my back surgery. Now I can tell my agent I'm ready and can begin working.
