Come 1998, the golden period of Yash Johar’s career began. Son Karan made his directorial debut with Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. The proud father could not have been happier.

This simple love story between best friends Rahul (SRK) and Anjali (Kajol) turned out to be a blockbuster, sweeping awards and raking in the moolah.

SRK’s bonding with Yash Johar, whom he fondly referred to as Tom Uncle, strengthened. "Yash Johar is very close to Juhi [Chawla] and me," he had told rediff.com in an earlier interview. "I have known him for a long time now. I have done two films -- Duplicate and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai -- with him.

"The Johars are like family. We have been friends for the last eight-nine years. And we meet every day, in their homes or wherever, and if anybody has a problem we all deal with it together."
