Yash Johar is special. Not just because he made hit films, but also because he was considered a gem of a human being.

On June 26, the man behind the prestigious Dharma Productions banner breathed his last, leaving behind a sea of warm memories, tremendous goodwill, and entertaining films.

He began his career as a still photographer. But his rise was steady and constant. He joined Sunil Dutt’s Ajanta Arts as a production assistant for films like Mujhe Jeene Do. Johar subsequently became associated with Dev Anand’s banner Navketan. He handled the production of Guide, Jewel Thief, and Hare Rama Hare Krishna.

In 1976 was born his very own Dharma Productions. The first film to be released under this banner was the Amitabh Bachchan-Shatrughan Sinha starrer Dostana. The film was a runaway success. Unfortunately, his next few films, like Duniya and Muqaddar Ka Faisla, didn’t click at the box office.

His second film with AB, Agneepath, won critical acclaim and fetched Bachchan his first National Award for Best Actor.
