Saiya -- Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost
I had a party doing this film. There was no stress involved at all. I was working with friends!
[Director] Apoorva Lakhia had been an assistant director in Lagaan. He told me during the shooting of Ori chori that he had a script in mind. He asked me if I would like to choreograph the songs.
A year-and-a-half later, he called me and made me listen to the songs. They were still casting then. Only Abhishek had been cast. They asked me for suggestions for the heroine’s role. Most of the time, I get it right. If I weren’t a choreographer, I would have been a casting director!

I recommended Lara for MSAMD because I thought she would look very good opposite Abhishek. I had seen her in a video once and thought she had something in her. She went on to win the Miss Universe title.
Lara worked very hard for Saiya. We would shoot from 6 am to 6 pm. We would reach the hotel by 7:30. By 8 pm, Lara would be back and rehearse till midnight. Most of the songs took about four days to shoot. |
