According to Neha, the buzz on Julie is very good.
Everyone's mostly interested in the sensational elements, we point out. The starlet doesn't buy the argument.
"This [sex] is part of the story [of Julie]," she says. "Considering that we are all part of progressive cinema, why not give it a shot? Why not just make sure that we treat it with a lot more sensibility apart from the fact that we stare at the screen every time something sexual comes up? We should give it a little more credit. By we, I mean both filmmakers and film viewers."
Kareena Kapoor played a streetwalker in Chameli. To lend a realistic feel to her character, the actress reportedly studied the behaviour of sex workers in Mumbai's red-light areas. Neha, however, doesn't believe in following suit. "My homework for Julie was not meeting sex workers," she says. "Julie is not [about] the professional side. It is about the emotional side, which I had to bring out on my own. It's an emotion that any woman would go through."
