They made headlines for their now-we-are-together, now-we-aren't relationship. For nearly two years now, the media has run riot with speculation about the relationship between Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez.
But the relationship is off. For good. Dan Klores Communications, JLo's publicists, said in a statement, 'I am confirming reports that Jennifer Lopez has ended her engagement to Ben Affleck. At this difficult time, we ask that you respect her privacy.'
People and US Weekly magazines first reported the breakup Thursday afternoon.
Lopez and Affleck were to have married last September, but called it off, claiming 'excessive media attention surrounding our wedding.' A month earlier, their romantic comedy Gigli, tanked at the box-office after excessive hype.
The couple's next movie, Jersey Girl, is due for release on March 19. Though Lopez plays Affleck's wife, she dies 12 minutes into the film.
Affleck is said to have gifted Lopez a 6.1-carat pink diamond Harry Winston engagement ring. And whether she has been wearing it or not, has been the subject of great speculation in the media lately.
Lopez was earlier married to waiter Ojani Noa (1997) and then to dancer Chris Judd (2001). She also dated Sean 'P Diddy' Combs for two years. The couple broke up in February 2001. Affleck has never married.
