Silsila and Saath-Saath

Javedsaab began his career in Hindi films as a scriptwriter (with Salim Khan) for Ramesh Sippy’s Seeta Aur Geeta in 1972.

After years of writing aggressive scripts for angry young man Amitabh Bachchan, the poet brought out the gentle side of Big B in his romantic musings of Silsila. Neela aasman, Dekha ek khwaab mein, Yeh kahan aa gaye hum are unforgettable examples of the same.

A year later, he penned the lyrics of the Farooque Shaikh-Deepti Naval marital drama, Saath-Saath.

It was hard to miss the poetry and silent regret in Tumko dekha, the self-denial of Pyaar mujhse jo kiya tumne and the heartening optimism of Yeh tera ghar.

Eternal favourites: Tumko dekha, Pyaar mujhse jo kiya, Yeh tera ghar.
