The Hindi film industry failed to throw up any promising star in 2003, barring maybe Shahid Kapur.
While John Abraham, Priyanka Chopra and Lara Dutta were noticed and written about, others who made their debut -- Zayed Khan, Ajay Jadeja, Tanisha, Celina Jaitley, Neha Dhupia, Ritesh Deshmukh, Aryan Vaid, Suchinder Bali, Samir Dharmadhikari, Ashmit Patel, Emran Hashmi, Mallika Sherawat, Ashish Choudhary and Juhi Babbar -- failed to make an impact.
As a result, 2003 belonged to established stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgan, Hrithik Roshan, Preity Zinta, Urmila Matondkar and Rani Mukerji.
Will 2004 take a fresh course? Doesn't look like it.
The year may see the launch of new faces like Mithun Chakravarty's son Mimoh, Rishi Kapoor's son Ranbir, Sharmila Tagore's daughter and Saif Ali Khan's sister Soha, Manisha Koirala's brother Siddharth and Ranveer Hooda from Ram Gopal Varma's camp, to name a few.
Whether they will actually debut this year and deliver anything substantial is doubtful.
With no big launch expected, 2004 may also be a year of established -- or hyped -- stars.
Anjum N lists five actors who may do better than the others this year.
Note: Some names make it to the list merely because they have bagged various prestigious projects, which have no guarantee of success.
