It was during the making of Bhoot that the idea of Ab Tak Chhappan came about. The film's editor Shimit Amin discussed the subject with Varma who was immediately game.

Ab Tak Chhappan marks the directorial debut of the Los Angeles-based Amin.

"It is [Ab Tak Chhappan] an exciting, interesting, dark subject. There are so many levels to it," says the 36-year-old Amin.
