Comedy is serious business. I don't take it lightly," says Kamal. "This movie is an earnest attempt at making a two-hour comedy, and giving people a good-enough reason to laugh."

The actor, who is also producing the film as well as writing the screenplay, has grown a French beard and long sideburns for the movie.

Quiz him for details and he obliges, "A large part of Mumbai Xpress has been shot in the suburbs of Mumbai. I am not sure of statistics, but more than half of Mumbai's population live in chawls. Mumbai Xpress revolves around the city slums. But I am not making fun of the city. The theme of the movie is 'salaam Mumbai.' Here, everyone dreams about making it big, despite all odds."

Dressed in a pair of beige cargo trousers and a shirt, he plays Avinash, a motorcycle stuntman, in Mumbai Xpress.
