Another director making his acting debut as a hero, Suryah starred in New not because he could not get an actor, but because he just wanted to act!

New is a loose adaptation of the Tom Hanks-starrer Big. A scientist transforms an eight year old to a 28 year old overnight, and the film deals with his life with a woman and his sexual exploits.

With Suryah as the hero, nobody expected the film to be such a tremendous puller at the box-office. What attracted people was the emphasis on sex and how the movie was replete with double entendre.

The puritans complained and women's associations staged dharnas, but nobody bothered as they had nearly three hours of 'adulterated' fun.
