The show opened officially in the presence of some of America’s most influential and heavyweight names, including Donald Trump and television veteran Mike Wallace.

Guests included producer Ismail Merchant, director James Ivory, Ivana Trump, and family members of the leading cast members.

Ayesha Dharker’s parents, Anil and Imtiaz, flew to New York for the grand show. Anisha’s family guests included a paternal uncle who had flown from Chennai solely to bless the niece and enjoy the show.

Broadway insiders described the standing ovation at the curtain call, which lasted for over six minutes, as one of the most spontaneous and loudest they have witnessed in a long time.
