The first ever show on Broadway set in contemporary India, particularly in Bollywood, and the first ever Broadway show to use the music of an Indian composer (A R Rahman) and choreographer (Farah Khan) and an actress from India (Ayesha Dharker), Bombay Dreams has been previewing for a month. And the word of mouth has been very good.
"But this production is so expensive," says Sudhir Vaishnav, associate producer, "that it needs a huge word of mouth to be a solid hit."
Produced by Andrew Llyod Webber, Bombay Dreams ran to packed houses in London for two years. It made its debut on Broadway on April 29.
