With A R Rahman giving the musical score, and both of you being stalwarts in your own field, what was the vibe like?

M F Husain: I waited for him for over a year to give me the music.

What is filmmaking? It is when the music, picture and speech come together. For us, songs are very important. Look at the Yakshagana and folk theatres -- the story flows through the music. It is not alien to our culture, is it?

Anyway, it is not like I gave him the bound script and said, "I want the music to sound like this hit or that hit of yours."

I gave him the total freedom to do what he wanted. I told him you do what you want, and I will follow you. I even sent him to Prague to get a feel of the place.

Owais: It i not that simple. We spent over a year trying to get the sound right. Rahman and I spent close to three months together talking and getting to know each other.

We found that we had similar tastes. Progressively, the vibing also helped us to get comfortable and then the music came more easily. But the Prague bit was tough. We went there twice to get the sound of the city right!
