Asha Parekh
The memory of Asha Parekh fluttering her fake eyelashes and energetically swinging to the tune of Aaja aaja makes you wonder if her namesake Asha Bhosle too was dancing herself into a frenzy in the studio when this Teesri Manzil stunner was being recorded.
How else could she have got the pant-quiver-shake effect in her voice to match the image on screen so perfectly? Another equally crazy song was that nautanki-Western combo in Daiya ye main kahan phasi from Caravan.
Asha Parekh was a gifted (and well-trained) dancer. When her steps were backed by Asha Bhosle's voice in the semi-classical Parde mein rehne do from Shikar, the effect was sensational. Together, they immortalised several romantic songs as well, including Bade hain dil ke kale (Dil Deke Dekho), Jaaiye aap kahan (Mere Sanam) and, above all, O mere sona re (Teesri Manzil).
