You had earlier mentioned you wanted to be an actor, not a star?

When I joined the film industry, I wanted to be known as an actor.

I have worked in Telugu and Kannada films. I also did a small role in Umesh Mehra's Hamare Tumhare in 1979. I did these films to become an actor.

But galti se [by default] I became a star! It was by accident - I never dreamed I would become a Bollywood star. Even I was shocked when my films started doing well one after another.

It still surprises me when people offer me the hero's role. They are willing to wait even if I tell them I will do the film after a year. I just feel very lucky.
