If an actor is known by hits, Anil Kapoor would probably not make the mark. The man has had no hit for three years.
Yet, here is an actor who is respected for his dedication. His painstaking efforts to get under the skin of his characters are also well known.
Now, Anil Kapoor will be seen in Sudhir Mishra's Calcutta Mail, which releases September 5. The film costars Rani Mukerji and Manisha Koirala.
The actor on his oeuvre:
What attracted you to Calcutta Mail?
The story is about a migrant from Bihar who is looking for some people in Kolkata. But when he reaches the city, he finds some locals want him dead.
Actually, this is based on the Telugu film, Choodalani Vundi [starring Chiranjeevi, Anjala Zhaveri and Soundarya]. I liked its story and asked Sudhir to remake it in Hindi. Initially, he refused.
Later, he agreed to make it his way.
I must say Sudhir has a unique style of working, just like Manmohan Desai, Prakash Mehra and other great directors.
Let me also tell you, Calcutta Mail is not an art film. It is a commercial film done differently, with elements of action. It has been made with sincerity
