Directed by Mahesh Manjrekar, Rakht includes Suniel Shetty, Bipasha Basu, Dino Morea and Neha Dhupia. The crew is now shooting at Shri Ram Mills in Parel, Mumbai.

Manjrekar who has directed Dutt in films like Vaastav, Kurukshetra and Pitaah believes the audience will have no trouble accepting the latter as a school principal. "See Mission Kashmir. Sanjay [Dutt] played the father of Hrithik Roshan, but people still loved his role. So why will they not accept him in this role?" he reasons.
