Danish director Lars Von Trier returns to the Cannes film festival for the seventh time. This time, the competition section will see his much-awaited three-hour film, Dogville.

Nicole Kidman (right), who won an Oscar for her role in The Hours, and Stellan Skarsgard (left) star in the film. Much to the delight of screaming fans, they were seen together on the red carpet. Kidman was last seen at Cannes two years ago, when she came to publicise Baz Luhramm's Moulin Rouge.

Incidentally, Trier used his time at the festival to get Tom Cruise's ex-wife to agree to star in his next two films, Manderlay and a yet-untitled project.
