'Marriage was inevitable for us'

Pooja Batra tied the knot with New York doctor Sonu Ahluwalia on February 9.

Held in New Delhi, the glittering wedding ceremony was choc-a-bloc with people from the modeling fraternity.

Pooja wore a ravishing red Azeem Khan outfit specially designed for the wedding. Rohini Iyer met the actress.

(smiles) Great. I have known Sonu for one-and-a-half years now. I like him and marriage was the next inevitable step for us. He comes from a completely non-filmi background. In fact, he doesn't get to see much Hindi films. His hours are long and he barely gets free time.

Whenever he was free, he would catch up on my films. I used to send him DVDs of my films. He has seen Viraasat, Haseena Maan Jayegi and most of my new releases. Though he likes me in Viraasat best.

I have been approached for two plays, and the best part is they will be staged in the US. So it is convenient for me. I have always wanted to do theatre -- I feel it is a very fulfilling medium for an artiste. It is creatively challenging and requires a lot of concentration. I am looking forward to it.

What about your Bollywood career?

I plan to shuttle between Mumbai and the US. I have been receiving many film offers in spite of my marriage.

After my honeymoon, I have to fly back to Jodhpur, Rajasthan, to shoot for Akbar Khan's Taj Mahal, which is almost complete. I play Noorjehan. It is a very interesting character with a lot of scope for histrionics.

After that, I will be back with Sonu and intend spending as much time with him as I can.

There is also Parwane with Ajay Devgan which is ready for release. There are two other films I am considering, provided I am free to do them. Right now, Sonu is my top priority. But yes, films will always be a part of my life.
