Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost is being touted as lead actor Abhishek Bachchan's ticket to stardom.
MSAMD director Apoorva Lakhia decided to approach Abhishek after watching his debut film, Refugee. Abhishek, who initially refused the film, agreed to do it two years later.
Originally scheduled for a May 16 release, MSMAD was to be premiered at the International Indian Film Academy awards ceremony in Johannesburg, South Africa, along with Amitabh Bachchan's Armaan. MSAMD, however, was withdrawn at the last minute because the distributor-producer deadlock in Mumbai forced its makers to postpone its theatrical release.
Abhishek's forthcoming assignments include Rohan Sippy's Kuch Naa Kaho (Aishwarya Rai), Rohit Shetty's Zameen (Ajay Devgan, Bipasha Basu) and J P Dutta's LoC (Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgan, Suniel Shetty, Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khanna, Manoj Bajpai, Raveena Tandon, Kareena Kapoor, Mahima Chaudhry, Esha Deol, Sameera Reddy).
