Hrithik has not had a solo hit since Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai, his blockbuster debut in 2000. Karan Johar's Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham was the only other film starring Hrithik that did well, but the credit was shared by his costars -- Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Kareena Kapoor.
"People came out in huge numbers because they wanted to know what Rakesh Roshan has done for his son, Hrithik, whose career is at an all-time low," says distributor and trade analyst Amod Mehra. "They know this is their first film together after Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai. They are optimistic. Luckily for them, the film is good." Speaking about Hrithik's career, Komal Nahta says, "The film is very important for him [Hrithik]. Hrithik is not 'out' of the industry but his position is shaky.
