Aamir Khan's Lagaan is very lucky.
Why? For one: It is not every year that an Indian film gets an Oscar nomination.
For another, it is not every year that two non-whites bag the Best Actor -- Male and Female -- Awards in the same year Denzel Washington won Best Actor for Training Day and Halle Berry won the Best Actress for Monster's Ball.
For yet another, it is not every year that yet another non-white is feted with an Honorary Oscar for his work.
That Lagaan lost to No Man's Land (Bosnia) is not the point. The point is that the imposing door -- to the white-dominated Oscars -- has been "knocked down" as host Whoopi Goldberg announced, by Halle Berry, as the first 'woman of colour' to get the Academy nod.
We track Lagaan's journey to the Oscar nomination. And post the ceremony. Browse through our exclusive interviews, news reports and slide shows.
