You expect a fine performance from Om Puri, no matter what the film or role. So when he plays the stereotypical wicked Thakur in Pitaah, without adding a quart of intelligence or individuality to the portrayal, it breaks one's heart.

Why should Om Puri be called upon to do a role any second-rate villain could do?
