Gujarati actor no more

Noted Gujarati stage actor, and Hindi cine and TV artiste, Mahavir Shah, met with a tragic end in a car accident in Chicago yesterday.

He was 40, and is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.

Shah was in the US on a two-month tour. Tragedy occured when Shah's vehicle collided with a speeding car on the national highway. The actor survived the collision, but couldn't avoid another speeding vehicle when he got out of his car.

An emergency helicopter immediately flew him to a local hospital, but Shah succumbed on the way.

Mahavir Shah's contribution towards Gujarati theatre was immense. He has, to his credit, prominent plays like Janmadata, Khel, Sakharam Binder, Saathi and Huj Taro Ishwar (which he directed), among many others.

In a career spanning three decades, Shah acted in over 50 Hindi movies either as villain or character artiste including Ankush, Tezaab, Hum Dono, Bichhoo, among others. He also appeared on television, in serials like Dastaan and Jivan Mrityu.

Shah's remains will be brought to India within a day or two.
