Often, people ask an owner of a smartphone if he could play a game on it (I have done that too, since I did not possess a smartphone for a long time). And, the answer that most of us often get is, "Sorry! My phone is low on battery."
It feels bad, but one cannot blame the guy either. Poor battery life is a problem most smartphones suffer from (even the high-end ones).
Lenovo claims to have done something no one else has till now to tackle this problem. Let's find out whether the Lenovo P780 actually worth the buzz around it.

Looks and display
Lenovo P780 has a five-inch display and looks sleek with a glossy front and black matte rear panel, aided with metallic trimmings on the sides.
The front of the device comes with Gorilla Glass, which prevents scratches from marring the look of the screen. The power key placement is quite disturbing, right on top, making it difficult to access, considering the big size of the device.
At 176g, the device is too heavy for a smartphone, but it is mainly due to the massive 4,000-mAh battery.
The five-inch display has 1,280x780 pixel resolution. The IPS technology-based display offers better contrast as well as brightness and colour vibrancy. Sunlight visibility does not disappoint.

Hardware and operating system
The Lenovo P780 utilises the Mediatek 6589 chipset that includes a 1.2-GHz quad-core processor and PowerVR SGX 544 GPU.
The Android Jelly Bean 4.2 operating system and graphics chip combination gives the Lenovo P780 enough power to tackle most daily tasks with ease.
The phone comes with one-GB RAM and four GB internal storage, of which users only get 2.7 GB. However, you can add another 32 GB using a microSD card.

On performance, the Lenovo P780 scored 13,575 in Antutu benchmark, which puts it close to the HTC One X in terms of performance.
The onscreen keypad, which by default is Google's updated keyboard, with swipe to type functionality, is nice and offers great utility.

Camera and multimedia
The Lenovo P780 comes with an eight-megapixel camera, with an LED flash for additional illumination. The camera manages low-light shots quite well.
This gadget can capture full high-definition (1,080p) videos at 30 frames a second, and the videos are good and smooth at all times. The handset also features an HD front-facing camera, good for video calling and can record 720p resolution videos.

Battery
Battery life is where the Lenovo P780 scores the highest. With nominal gaming, audio-video use and browsing on both 3G and Wifi, the device usually lasts 40 hours between full recharges.
More, it has a battery-saving utility called Energy Smart. The application promotes battery saving, and it gets intelligent CPU control, which puts unused CPU cores to sleep when not required.
More, Lenovo has added an interesting feature to the device. It can charge other devices as well. Yes, you can use the cell phone's USB port to charge other devices.

Bottom line
At Rs 18,799, the Lenovo P780 brings an amazing battery backup, one of the most crucial things for a smartphone.
With that, it has speedy hardware and a good build lend weight to it. The small internal storage for a mid-range device is a turn-off.
However, I would not shy away from recommending this device, considering its price.
