Kalanithi Maran-promoted budget carrier SpiceJet on Tuesday announced another round of discounts, offering flyers fares as low as Rs 1,999 under a 'Monsoon Sale' scheme.

The fresh round of discounted fares is applicable for three days starting Tuesday on all SpiceJet flights from eight cities in South India, the airline said.

The cities are Bengaluru, Chennai, Coimbatore, Hyderabad, Kochi, Kozhikode, Mysore and Visakhapatnam.

AirAsia India, which is the domestic subsidiary of Malaysian no-frills airline AirAsia, is expected to give tough competition to domestic budget carriers with its ultra-low fares strategy.

"We are pleased to announce that monsoons finally hit South India with great discounts on flights. Lean seasons like this are the best time to travel for guests without stretching their wallet," SpiceJet chief commercial officer Kaneswaran Avili said.
