Cash-strapped Kingfisher had the best on-time performance in the last three years and low cost airline IndiGo registered the highest passenger load factor while national carrier Air India remained the worst performer on both the parameters.
Last year, Kingfisher Airlines stood second with 90.5 per cent OTP while Jet Airways had the best figures with 91 per cent OTP.

Image: Air India headquarters.In 2009 and 2010, Kingfisher had registered the best OTP with 82.8 and 86.9 per cent while SpiceJet remained at second with 82.3 and 85 per cent.
"The on-time performance (OTP) of Air India was registered at 73.3 per cent for 2009, 73.4 in 2010 and 73.2 per cent in 2011 and it remained at last spot," Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh said in Lok Sabha.
The Minister informed that the national carrier also remained at the last spot on the parameters of passenger load factor (PLF) in last three years.

Image: IndiGo."The passenger load factor of Air India was 66.1 per cent in 2009, 71.4 per cent in 2010 and 71.6 per cent in 2011, while low cost carrier IndiGo topped with the figures of 78.6 per cent in 2009, 83.6 per cent in 2010 and 83.3 per cent in 2011," the Minister informed the House.
In reply to another question, Singh said that the aircraft to employee ratio for Air India was 258.

Image: Jet Airways.He said there was no international benchmarking for an ideal aircraft to employees ratio. It varies from airline to airline depending upon the nature and extent of functions performed in-house.
"Most of the airlines have outsourced a number of their functions whereas in case of Air India most of the functions are being performed in-house. The approximate employees to aircraft ratio in Jet Airways in 150, 111 in Kingfisher, 118 in SpiceJet, 185 in GoAir and 102 in IndiGo," Singh said.

The Minister said there is a shortage of pilots in Commander category in the country. In order to meet the shortage of pilots, DGCA has allowed hiring of expat pilots till 2013.
"In the meantime, airlines have been asked to make adequate arrangements in order to train co-pilots to attain minimum standard to become Commander," Singh said.
