Volvo launches new S60 saloon, XC60 crossover

The Swedish automaker is also trying to benefit from this festive season, with the launch of the facelifted versions of Volvo S60 and XC60, scheduled to be held on Wednesday in the National Capital Region.

Ford Motor Cooperation sold the Volvo to Geely of China in 2010 and the new owners are focusing on redefining the brand with new design scheme and powertrains.

As in India, Volvo does not have an assembly unit, the vehicles come through the CBU unit; so prices are higher as compared to its rivals.

Most of the rivals of Volvo, like BMW, Audi, and Mercedes Benz have started assembling cars locally; so, these vehicle are priced competitively.

The major rivals of the Volvo S60 are BMW 3 Series, Mercedes Benz C Class and Audi A4 while major rivals for XC60 are the BMW X3 and Audi Q3 among others.

Despite Volvo cars being considered among the safest in the world, the sales figures are poor in India when compared to the German Big 3.

Both XC60 and S60 sports Volvo’s advance city safety features, which automatically stops the vehicle in case of sudden confrontation of any, front obstacle, up to a speed of 50 kmph.

It also boosts the adaptive display as in S60, first seen in the V40 cross country and Volvo’s sense infotainment system; in addition to this, the car sports all-wheel drive and hill descend and ascend control.

The XC60 sports the Volvo’s iconic floating type dashboard similar to S60 and with this update, the manufacturer ditched the black theme interior in the outgoing version.

Mechanically, both cars will remain the same and powered by familiar 2.0 oil burner and 2.4 petrol mills. Both of these are improvised for better efficiency.
