Hyundai's Santa Fe and its 5 rivals in India

Hyundai is all set to launch its Sports Utility Vehicle Santa Fe in the Indian market this festive season. Currently, the Indian SUV market is buzzing with activity and the new car would have to face plenty of competition.

The Hyundai Santa Fe will be powered by a 2188cc, 2.2L, 4-cylinder, 16-valve, CRTD, SOHC engine with 5 speed manual gear box that produces 154bhp power at 4000 rpm and 343Nm torque at 1800-2500 rpm.

But it will face competition from some of the SUVs that are already in the market.

Toyota Fortuner

It is the current segment leader. The Fortuner is powered by a 2982 cc common rail diesel engine that churns out 163 PS (160 BHP) of power and 35 kgm of torque, aided by a variable geometry turbocharger (VGT).

The choice of transmission is limited to a four speed auto and a five speed manual transmission.

The suspension is on the stiffer side but it soaks up the jerks and bumps very easily without rattling your bones.

Safety features haven't been compromised with electronic stability programme (ESP), electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD) and traction control on offer.

The design is boxy but space and seating comfort is good and there is plenty of head and leg room.

Chevrolet Captiva

It is available in 2.0 L, 1991 cc diesel engine with both automatic and manual transmission gearbox.

Chevrolet Captiva comes in diesel engine only with three models - Captiva LT, LTZ and Xtreme.

Chevrolet Captiva LTZ is the only model that comes with five-speed automatic transmission gearbox whereas Captiva LT and Xtreme have a five-speed manual transmission gearbox.

Ford Endeavour

It comes with two different capacity engines - 2.5L Duratorq and 3.0L Duratorq diesel units.

Ford Endeavour is available in three variants of which two have 2.5L, 2499cc, Duratorq TDCi diesel engine with direct injection common rail fuel injection system and five speed manual transmission gearbox.

This engine is packed with VGT (variable geometry turbocharger) that enhances the overall engine performance with fuel efficiency.

The car got two new variants.

The 2.2 litre four cylinder diesel engine has an in-line arrangement and is a 2184cc unit.

The engine is equipped with 16 valves 4 in each cylinder, double overhead cam shaft (DOHC) and a direct injection common rail fuel injection system.

It delivers 136 PS at the rate of 4000 rpm and a torque of 314Nm or 32kgm and that too at the rate of 2000 rpm.

Mitsubishi Outlander

It comes with a 2.4 MIVEC (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing Electronic Control system) engine and has CVT (continuously variable transmission).
