Asia’s biggest auto event Beijing Auto Show just concluded. The show features many cars that auto makers will soon bring to Indian market or are planning to launch them here.

Honda Fit (Jazz)

The 2015 Honda Fit, or the Honda Jazz as it is called in India, was launched in China at the Beijing Auto Show. The car is priced starting from 73,800 yuan (Rs 7.17 lakh) and is manufactured in China by the Guangzhou-Honda joint venture.

The Chinese vehicle gets the more powerful 1.5-litre petrol engine, as opposed to the 1.2-litre engine it will be seen with in India.

In China, the Fit competes with the Toyota Yaris L, Ford Fiesta hatchback and the Volkswagen Polo.

Honda Spirior Concept (Accord)

The current Spirior was launched in 2009, and the nameplate is attracting customers who look for “high quality, advanced technology” and are “advocates of driving pleasure.”

The concept (and the production vehicle) comes with a 2.4-litre direct injection engine paired to an 8-speed dual clutch gearbox.

Some of the features include a head-up display system, lane departure warning system, blind spot display systems and “other advanced technologies.”

Chevrolet Cruze

Taking cues from the Chevrolet Tru concept showcased at the Beijing Auto Show two years ago, the model sports a “dual-mesh” grille and peeled headlamps.

Steeply raked front windshield, chrome trim and short overhangs are a few of the different design features compared to the current Cruze, on the replacement.

The vehicle will be launched in China in two engine options - 1.4-litre turbo and a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol - and three transmission choices - 6-speed manual (newly developed), 6-speed AMT and a seven speed dual clutch AT (newly developed).

Volkswagen Touareg

The facelifted SUV gets cosmetic changes such as bigger bi-xenon headlamps, bigger grille and a new bumper.

The rear sees updates to its bumper and diffuser. The car stands on a fresh alloy wheel design and also new are interior upholstery shades.

Standard equipments for the new Touareg will include low rolling-resistance tyres along with start/stop systems.

Suzuki Alivio Concept (Maruti Ciaz)

The near production version of the Maruti Ciaz has premiered at the 2014 Beijing Auto Show, as the Suzuki Alivio.

To be launched later this year as the replacement to the SX4 sedan, Concept Alivio is a further refinement toward production model.

Suzuki has confirmed that the car would receive a 1,586 cc DOHC 16-valve four-cylinder petrol engine with a newly developed six-speed automatic transmission.

Hyundai ix25

Hyundai Motor lifted the veil on the Hyundai ix25 compact SUV at the 2014 Beijing Auto Show.

Sales of the ix25 will commence in China in the second half of the year and would be made at one of Hyundai’s three factories in the country.

The ix25′s exterior is designed with the Hyundai Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design philosophy that was seen first on the new Genesis last year.

The vehicle appears slightly more aggressive than the Hyundai crossovers of today.

The front is styled with a hexagonal grille, LED-lined headlamps, large foglight enclosures and a silver skid plate.

Jeep Wrangler & Jeep Renegade Apollo Edition

The cars preview a future special edition model, and incidentally, both donor vehicles will be sold in India if and when Jeep launches in the country.

The Apollo Edition gives the cars a special brown body paint and alloy wheels that support beefy all-terrain tyres. The suspension has also been heightened for the Wrangler.

On the inside, the colour theme is of purple and gold as the seats, steering and the dashboard all are adorned in purple leather.

The grab handle above the glove box, gear stalk and the three spokes in the steering wheel are gold in colour with the remaining bits like the aircon vents and switches retaining their darker look.

Chevrolet Trax Changku

The Trax Changku will be manufactured by Shanghai-GM. It is based on the existing Buick Encore that is also made in the same manufacturing facility and sold in China.

While the Encore is aimed at families, GM positions the Trax Changku to target the youngsters.

The Trax gets a single 1.4-litre four-cylinder DOHC turbocharged petrol engine that makes 140 hp at 4,900 rpm and 200 Nm of peak torque at 1,850 rpm.

The compact SUV also receives cruise control, front, side and roof curtain airbags, ABS, ESC, Hill Start Assist, daytime running lights and 18-inch wheels.

The Trax is available for a price range of between RMB 119,900 – 159,900 (Rs 11.61 lakh – Rs 15.49 lakh).

Audi A3

The Audi A3 sedan was launched at the Beijing Auto Show ahead of its official production commencement at the new Foshan plant.

Branded ‘A3 Limousine’, it comes in two variants, priced at 279,800 yuan (Rs 27.08 lakh) and 334,300 yuan (Rs 32.36 lakh).

Audi TT

The car combines the sportiness of a coupe and the utility of a small SUV.

The concept features a hybrid powertrain that combines a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged TFSI engine with two electric motors to give a combined power output of 300 kW and 650 Nm of torque.

The petrol engine is coupled with a disc-shaped electric motor that is integrated into the 6-speed e-Stronic transmission to send power to the front wheels.

Apart from the standard charging procedure, the concept car also shows off its inductive wireless charging capabilities, whereby the car can simply be driven on to a plate and it will be charged.

BMW 7 Series Horse Edition

The special edition marks the Chinese year of the Horse that is going on currently. The BMW 740Li xDrive Horse Edition get a few cosmetic changes.

Badges in the form of a horse are added to the front head rests and a chrome strip on the rear that connects the taillight clusters carry a ‘Limited Edition’ lettering.

The sedan features an all-wheel drive system also comes with adaptive LED  headlamps, surround view system, M Sport package that includes the M Aerodynamics package, 19-inch M light-allow wheels in a V-spoke design, M leather steering and BMW individual roof liner in Anthracite.

Active seat ventilation for both driver and front passenger, massage function in the rear seat backrests and Ash Grain Anthracite fine wood interior trim strips complete the interior features.

Mercedes-Benz Concept

The Concept Coupe SUV takes on the BMW X6, which by itself is up for a new generation later this year.

The concept is a combination of an SUV - based on the M-Class platform - and a coupe that takes its design cues from the S-Class Coupe.

The concept stands at just around 5 metres in length, 2 metres in width and around 1.75 metres in height.

It also features recessed door handles, frameless side windows, large wheel arches housing 22-inch wheels, high beltline and has generous ground clearance.

Honda Concept B

The Honda Concept B sedan is developed specifically for the Chinese market. It is aimed at the younger customers and is ‘cool’ and ‘practical’.

Honda has confirmed that the production model will be launched in two years and it plans to have a hybrid variant (FUNTEC) for “excellent fuel economy”. Honda also says the technology would provide “excellent driving pleasure”.

BMW Vision Future Luxury Concept

The concept furnishes a long-term outlook on the perception of modern luxury for the BMW brand and uses what BMW calls as a pioneering lightweight engineering concept.

This composite structure contains an initial base layer of fine carbon fabric on top which rests a functional layer that features user interface components - like aircons, lighting functions.

A further structural load-bearing layer of aluminium is added for strength. Finally, the top layers comprise wood followed by leather.

The concept almost does away with the traditional B-pillar. Instead, the carbon construction allows the seat frames to be integrated into the load-bearing structure. There are also connections to the door sills and centre console, which means only a very small and unobtrusive B-pillar is required.

An almost private rear seat has been an objective for the company. Two large, deeply contoured single seats, says BMW, invites passengers to retire into their own personal “comfort zone”.

A retractable table, angled Rear Seat Displays and the rigid backs of the front seats create a very private ambience, sectioning this area off from the rest of the interior.

Land Rover Discovery Vision Concept

The Discovery Vision Concept, with its clean lines and flush surfaces, previews the design language of the future Discovery family.

The smallest member would be the Discovery Sport, which would replace the Freelander 2. A seven seat variant of it has also been planned to launch in the future.

Porsche Boxster GTS

The Porsche Boxster GTS retains the same 3.4-litre flat-six boxer engine used in the present Boxster S.

However, Porsche has thrown the spanner in the works and eked out 15 extra hp to take the total to 330 hp at 6,700 rpm.

Porsche Cayman GTS

The Porsche Cayman GTS is also equipped with the same 3.4-litre flat-six boxer engine used in the Boxster GTS.

The power output for the GTS is 15 hp more than the Cayman S, now at 340 hp at 7,400 rpm and the engine produces peak torque of 380 Nm.
