NSE-50 Index

Nifty gains slightly

Pivotal prices witnessed a mixed trend with alternate bouts of buying and selling on the National Stock Exchange in Bombay today.

The NSE-50 Index opened at 1124.90 points, touched the day's high of 1133.40 points, a low of 1122.60 points, and finally closed at 1125.70, showing a net gain of 9.60 points as against its previous close of 1116.10 points.

Similarly, the Midcap Index closed higher at 1262.30 points over the previous close on Friday of 1252.05, gaining 10.25 points.

The total turnover on the exchange was Rs 18.3 billion involving 53.6 million shares and the number of trades were 147,813. The total turnover at the debenture segment was Rs 10.1 million.

Among the top gainers for the day were HDFC Bank, HDFC Limited, ITC Limited, Bajaj Auto and Hindalco, while the losers included Mahindra and Mahindra, IFCI, MRPL, MTNL and Ashok Leyland.

Trading was witnessed at led by ITC with a total turnover of Rs 8.6 billion followed by RIL Rs 3.1 billion, Tata Tea Rs 2 billion, SBI-N Rs 1.2 billion, Saytam Comp Rs 304.5 million, Castrol Rs 264.2 million, TISCO Rs 249.8 million, ACC Rs 249.1 million, Hind Lever Rs 213.4 million, Bajaj Auto Rs 213.1, TELCO Rs 206 million, BHEL Rs 174.9 million, ICICI Bank Rs 132.2 million, L&T Rs 98.9 million, Hero Honda Rs 81 million, Sundar Min Rs 57.7 million, Ponds Rs 51 million, HDFC Rs 49.7 million, Guj Amb Cem Rs 49.6 million, Colgate Rs 48.2 million, Rel Capital Rs 45.7 million, ICICI Rs 42 million, Infosys Tech Rs 41.4 million, MTNL Rs 36.6 million, Tata Infotech Rs 33.3.
