Yes, you read that right. A bottle of whisky for Rs 24 lakh.

Wine major Whyte and Mackay Ltd on Tuesday announced the sale of the final bottle available from the world's most expensive limited-edition bottling of The Dalmore 62 Years Old single highland malt scotch whisky for £30,000 (approx Rs 23.80 lakh).

The bottle, dubbed 'The Matheson', was the last in a limited- edition bottling to be sold. The company also sold two bottles of The Dalmore 50 Years Old.

The Whisky Exchange supplied the bottle to Pennyhill Park Hotel in Surrey, United Kingdom.

A private collector and patron of the hotel acquired the bottle of The Dalmore 62 Years Old for a price exceeding £30,000 and also purchased a bottle of The Dalmore 50 Years Old.

"This record-breaking sale further demonstrates the power of our legendary brand The Dalmore," said Debbie Workman, trade marketing, Whyte and Mackay

Ltd. "We were honoured to work with The Whisky Exchange and Pennyhill Park Hotel on this historic occasion and we congratulate the lucky connoisseurs who will savor these finely aged malts."

"This is the 2nd bottle of The Dalmore 62 Years Old that we have sold," said Sukhinder Singh of The Whisky Exchange, "selling this extraordinarily rare bottle of The Dalmore again shows that our company is the world's leading supplier of Rare & Old Spirits."

Commenting on The Dalmore, Singh said: "This 62 Years Old gem represents many generations' commitment to producing a highly prized and classic malt whisky."

Prior to this sale, another bottle of The Dalmore 62 Years Old, 'The Kildermorie', was auctioned in 2002 for a record £25,877.50 (Rs 20.52 lakh).

The rare 62 Years Old spirit has been derived from 1868, 1878, 1926 and 1939 The Dalmore.

Over the years it has been racked several times and finally finished in an Oloroso 'Mathusalem' Sherry butt from Gonzalez Byass, Spain, then distilled and matured by The Dalmore Distillery in Alness. Each hand-blown bottle has been individually named and has a specially commissioned, hand printed label with a unique print ink block design, said a Whyte and Mackay media release.

The Whisky Exchange is part of Specialty Drinks Ltd, suppliers of premium spirits to the world's leading establishments.
