"This is the first CPC branch and the first branch of Communist Youth League of China to be set up in the 22 Wal-Mart outlets in China," Chen Lie head of the Organisation Department of the Dongda District Committee of the CPC, said.
A trade union was also set up in the Wal-Mart outlet in the north-eastern city on August 12 and its employees will now have access to CPC membership, he was quoted as saying by Xinhua news agency.
But Chen did not explain why they did not publicise the information on the date when the CPC and CYLC branches were established.
Wal-Mart has set up 59 outlets in 30 Chinese cities since it entered China in 1996. It has more than 23,000 employees in China, including over 700 in Shenyang.
The CPC-backed All-China Federation of Trade Unions had forced the Wal-Mart to allow the establishment of labour unions in its branches.
Wal-Mart with 1.6 million employees in 16 countries and regions, has a tradition of not allowing trade unions in its outlets, for which it has been widely criticised by human rights and labour organisations, Xinhua reported.
