The atomic minerals division of the Uranium Corporation of India has found 11.03 million tonne of uranium ore deposits in Nalgonda district in Andhra Pradesh.
Replying to Bharatiya Janata Party legislators K Haribabu and K Laxman during 'question hour' in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly, Minister for Mines Uma Madhava Reddy said that the uranium deposits were explored by AMD in Peddagattu area of P A Pally Mandal in the district.
She pointed out that the Uranium Corporation, a Government of India undertaking, has applied for grant of mining lease for Lampapur-Pedagattu uranium project. The application is being processed.
The Uranium Corporation also intends to establish a hydro-metallurgical plant to process the raw ore. There is also a proposal to explore uranium in Visakhapatnam and other coastal areas, she added.
