Venu Srinivasan, Chairman and MD of Chennai-based TVS Motor Company, one of India's leading two-wheeler manufacturer, has been conferred with a doctorate in science by Warwick University in recognition of his contribution in fields of technology and research and development.
Vice Chancellor of the Warwick University Prof David VandeLinde conferred the honour on Srinivasan at a formal ceremony in Warwickshire on Wednesday in the presence of top dignitaries in the field of education.
In his citation, VandeLinde noted that under the leadership of Srinivasan, the TVS Motor Company emerged as a leading manufacturer of two wheelers in the world competing against Global two-wheeler giants by adopting a work culture that can match the best in the world through persistence, hard work and self-belief.
"Srinivasan's relentless pursuit and obsession in achieving total quality led to Sundaram Clayton and TVS Motor Company winning the global quality benchmark -- the Deming Application Prize.
"Srinivasan is credited with pioneering the total quality management based on the Japanese model, long before most enterprises in India did it. He is also honoured with the title 'Star of Asia' awarded by leading international magazine, BusinessWeek in 2003," he said.
Introducing Srinivasan to the august gathering, Prof Lord Bhattacharya of the Warwick University said the TVS Group currently had about 30 companies employing more than 40,000 people with a turnover in excess of $2 billion. -- PTI
