While in Muscat, the minister will have meetings with Sayyid Fahd bin Memoud Al Said, deputy prime minister, and Maqbool Ali bin Sultan, minister of commerce & industry.
In the UAE, Kamal Nath will call on the President of the UAE and will have a meeting with the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry on March 26.
En route Dubai, the minister will visit the Jebel Ali Free Trade Zone, the Knowledge City, besides attending a reception by non-resident Indians to be hosted by the Indian Business and Professional Council on March 27.
On March 28, the minister will call on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice president and prime minister of the
UAE and ruler of Dubai. On the same day, he will address the Khaleej Times Interactive Forum on 'India on the Fast Track' in Dubai. (UAE consists of Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm al-Qaiwain, Ras al-Khaimah and Fujairah.)
The Gulf Cooperation Council is a customs union of six countries -- Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates. India's exports to this region constitute about three to four per cent of her global exports and India's imports from this region account for over 20 per cent of her global imports. India is in the process of negotiating a Free Trade Agreement with GCC.
Trade in Services and Investment Cooperation will be synergised with the proposed FTA.
