Twenty-four hour sports channel Ten Sports, which is owned by Dubai-based Taj Television, is moving aggressively in the Indian market.

After bagging rights for the Pakistan and West Indies cricket series, Ten Sports has now bagged the telecast rights for 'The Real Madrid tour of Asia' football tourney, where David Beckham will play his debut match for the Spanish champions.

The deal was signed yesterday with IEC Sports Marketing, a European sports marketing company.

Confirming the news from Dubai, Peter Hutton, vice-president, programming and events, Ten Sports, said: "We have exclusive telecast rights for the South Asia region, and will telecast four matches of Beckham's debut tour for Real Madrid in August. The tour starts with a match on August 2 in China and ends in Malaysia on August 10."

"Having strengthened our cricket portfolio with the acquisition of broadcast rights to all games played in the West Indies and Pakistan (besides existing rights in Sri Lanka and Morocco), we are now looking at strengthening our position in other sports, Hutton added.

"The Real Madrid tour of Asia marks the first of a series of new football acquisitions, which will include properties in India and Europe," he added.

Ten Sports is also banking on the fact that the Real Madrid matches will be played during prime time slots in India.
