Infosys and some of its employees are being investigated by the US authorities in connection with a subpoena issued against it last year following alleged violation of visa rules, according to India's second-largest IT services firm.
Subpoena is a court-issued command to individual or representatives of corporate entities to appear before the court of provide specific evidence as sought by the court.
"In connection with the subpoena, during a recent meeting with the United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Texas, the company was advised that the company and certain of its employees are targets of the investigation," the Bangalore-based entity said in a routine regulatory filing in the Securities and Exchange Commission in the US.
"The company intends to have further discussions with the US Attorney's officer regarding this matter," it added. "However, the company cannot predict the outcome of the investigation by, or discussions with, the US Attorney's office."
In May last year, a district court in Texas had issued a subpoena to Infosys, asking for certain details about the B1 business visa uses by the company.
This was issued after Jack Palmer, one of its US employees, filed a lawsuit before an Albama court alleging that Infosys was involved in misusing the B1 business visa programme to send lower level and unskilled foreigners to the US to work in full-time positions.
