Tata Consultancy Services is planning to recruit about 4,000 non-Indians during this year as part of its strategy to have a diverse workforce and to reflect 'a global corporation' image of the company.
Addressing a press conference, S Padmanabhan, executive vice-president, global human resources, TCS, said that the company would be hiring those 4,000 people in Latin America, Eastern Europe, Australia and China. It would hire most of the people with one or two years experience.
He said that the company would be replicating some of the Indian models in other geographies for hiring people. TCS has developed relationships with a number of foreign academies and institutions and will be in a position to go for campus recruitments in these institutes.
At the end of the first quarter of this financial year, the total employee strength of TCS was 71,190, with employees from 53 nationalities. Non-Indian nationals formed 7.3 per cent of the total employee base.
Padmanabhan said that non-Indian nationals were 6.6 per cent of the total workforce as of the end of the last year, but increased to 7.3 per cent due to the acquisitions the company made in the last six months.
TCS has also posted some of the newly hired non-Indians to India and for giving them a exposure to the Indian culture and operations of the company.
He also said that a lot of efforts had gone in globalising workforce and integrating acquisitions. The company has gained good understanding of integrating companies that it acquired in the last six months.
Asked about key challenges in the integration process, Padmanabhan said that company focused on three key areas to make the process smooth.
We acquire right company that is complementary to our business offerings and hence there is no tension in doing such integration.
The other two factors include taking care of employees of the acquired company and protecting their employment contracts and finally giving TCS marketing reach to that company to get more customers, he added.
During the first quarter of this fiscal, TCS has made a gross addition of 7,095 (net 4,698) employees. It has visited 180 campuses during the first quarter and obtained Day 1 slots in 94 per cent of these campuses. It made 8,710 offers on these campuses to suitable candidates for 2007-08.
