While Tata Sons' Chairman Emeritus Ratan Tata has made an investment in e-commerce company Snapdeal, he is not involved in its functioning.

On the sidelines of an event here, Snapdeal co-founder Kunal Bahl said, “Many times, like we don't need our parents to be in front of us for their support, I don't think he (Tata) needs to be in front of me all the time for the support that he can give us.”

Even as the exact amount of the investment by Tata is not known, experts said this was a significant development for the company, mainly due to Tata's stature.

Bahl said Tata's role in Snapdeal was like other investors’. But he was “special in his own way”.

“I think his investment is a great validation of what we are building, and I think probably our vision resonated with him,” Bahl said.
