Leading cruise operator in the Asia-Pacific, Star Cruises would start Mumbai-Lakshadweep-Goa service from September to popularise cruise tourism in the country.

Chee-Tut Chong, chief operating officer of Star Cruises, said on Wednesday that Star Cruises would deploy 'SuperStar Libra' having a carrying capacity of 1500 persons on board for the cruise.

He said that 'SuperStar Libra' would be docked at Mumbai from which cruises would start to the destinations of Kadmat in Lakshadweep and Goa covering four nights at cost of Rs 20,300 per person including breakfast, two meals and Las Vegas-style dances.

Star Cruises would also operate one-night cruise into the high seas from Mumbai, he said.

He said that the Indian government's decision to waive cabotage requirement would give a boost to cruise tourism in the country, adding that it was a cheaper alternative to land tourism.

'SuperStar Libra' is one of the first six ships, which would be progressively transferred over to the Star Cruises Asia fleet.
