The Kerala government has not excluded the industrial units situated in special economic zones from labour laws, State labour minister P K Gurudasan told the Assembly on Thursday.

The government was of the view that any labour disputes in the IT sector and new generation banks should be resolved through discussion and talks with respective employees associations, Gurudasan said.

He was replying to a calling attention motion on the difficulties experienced by the employees of new generation banks, IT sector and private insurance and financial institutions functioning in the state due to non-compliance of labour laws by the respective units.

Gurudasan said the government had received complaints on violation of labour rules in IT sector and new generation banks.

He said instructions had been given to maintain proper registers and records in these organisations. He added that the labour department was also instructed to monitor the situation in the institutions.

Taking up the matter, K Sivadasan Nair (Cong) said there was gross violation of labour rules by these organisations. The employees in these sectors were forced to work more than eight hours a day, he added.
