Sensex up 87 points at 11,707

The markets had a strong session today as sustained buying was seen in the frontliners.

The Sensex closed at 11,706.85 up 87 points. The Nifty gained 25 points to close at 3426.

The BSE Small Cap Index closed flat at 5,870.44.

The BSE Midcap Index closed flat at 4,844.90.

Most of the BSE sectoral indices closed in the positive terrain.

The BSE IT Index was gained 1.5% at 4,298.34.  HCL Info, Wipro, Mphasis BFL, Infosys and Patni Computer moved northwards on the bourses.

The BSE Capital Goods Index rose 0.7% at 7,803.09. Praj Industries, Bharat Elec, Crompton Greave, BHEL and Thermax closed higher.

The BSE FMCG Index closed was up 0.6% at 1,997.54.  ITC, Colgate, Nirma, P & G and McDowell closed in green.

The BSE Bankex was up 0.6% at 5,273.29. Bank of India, Canara Bank, Andhra Bank and ICICI Bank moved upwards.

The BSE Oil and Gas Index gained 0.34% at 5,674.52. IOC, ONGC, MRPL and HPCL rose higher.

The BSE Health Care Index gained 0.4% at 3,518.11. FDC, Sun Pharma, Ipca Labs, Wyeth and Cipla gained.

The BSE Auto Index rose 0.24% at 4,971.16. Exide Industries, Maruti Udyog, Sundram, TVS Motor and Ashok Leyland were among the giners.

The BSE Metal Index lost 0.9% at 8,406.72. Jindal Saw, Sesa Goa, Tata Steel, SAIL and Hindalco witnessed selling pressure.

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 5739.72 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 25890.84 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 2417.32 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 34047.88 crore.

Sensex @ 1402 hrs

 The markets are holding out their gains on account of sustained buying interest. At 14.02 pm IST, the Sensex is up 86.62 points or 0.75% at 11706.14, and the Nifty up 23.15 points or 0.68% at 3424.25.

About 1311 shares have advanced, 1074 shares declined, and 78 shares are unchanged.
Top gainers on the indices are ONGC up 2.68%, ITC up 2.36% and NTPC up 2.21% and Maruti Udyog up 2.09%
Top losers on the Sensex are HLL down 1.33%, Hindalco down 1.16% and Tata Steel down 0.63%

Index heavyweight Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 236.60 down 1.33% from its previous close of Rs 239.80.
Index heavyweight Reliance was trading at Rs 1,120.00 down 0.18% from its previous close of Rs 1,122.05.
Tech major Infosys was trading at Rs 1,796.25 up 1.49% from its previous close of Rs 1,769.80.
Cigarette major ITC was trading at Rs 184.45 up 2.36% from its previous close of Rs 180.20.
Refinery major HPCL was trading at Rs 272.00 up 0.89% from its previous close of Rs 269.60.

Sensex @ 1312 hrs:

The markets continue to trade at higher level in line with its Asian peers. At 13.12 pm IST, the Sensex is up 120.25 points or 1.03% at 11739.77, and the Nifty up 31.10 points or 0.91% at 3432.2.

About 1460 shares have advanced, 865 shares declined, and 78 shares are unchanged.
Top gainers on the Sensex are ONGC up 2.76%, Reliance Comm up 2.60% and ITC up 2.30%
Top gainers on the Nifty are NALCO up 2.93% and Maruti Udyog up 2.51%
Top losers on the Sensex are HLL, Bharti Airtel, Grasim, Jet Airways and GlaxoSmithKline.
Index heavyweight Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 237.50 down 0.96% from its previous close of Rs 239.80.
Index heavyweight Reliance was trading at Rs 1,125.70 up 0.33% from its previous close of Rs 1,122.05.
Tech major Infosys was trading at Rs 1,797.00 up 1.54% from its previous close of Rs 1,769.80.
Cigarette major ITC was trading at Rs 184.35 up 2.3% from its previous close of Rs 180.20.
Refinery major HPCL was trading at Rs 272.95 up 1.24% from its previous close of Rs 269.60.

Sensex @ 1205 hrs:

The markets are trading on strong note on the back of buying interest in scrips across indices. At 12.05 pm, the Sensex is up 99.42 points or 0.86% at 11718.94, and the Nifty up 26.00 points or 0.76% at 3427.1.

About 1396 shares have advanced, 795 shares declined, and 78 shares are unchanged.
All the BSE sectoral indices were trading in green.
The BSE consumer durable index has outperformed the other indices. It was up 2.35% at 3105.92.
The BSE capital goods and FMCG indices were up 1%.
ITC, BHEL, Maruti Udyog, NTPC and NALCO were top movers on the indices.
Tech major Infosys was trading at Rs 1,787.50 up 1% from its previous close of Rs 1,769.80.
Cigarette major ITC was trading at Rs 184.60 up 2.44% from its previous close of Rs 180.20.
Refinery major HPCL was trading at Rs 272.90 up 1.22% from its previous close of Rs 269.60.
However, HLL, Grasim, Bharti Airtel, Jet Airways, and Suzlon Energy were major losers.
BSE 500 gainers:
Goetze was quoting at Rs 319.00, up Rs 46.15, or 16.91%.

Automotive Axle was quoting at Rs 484.95, up Rs 26.50, or 5.78%
Gitanjali Gems was quoting at Rs 199.35, up Rs 9.45, or 4.98%.
Praj Industries was quoting at Rs 172.10, up Rs 7.05, or 4.27%.

Sensex @ 1054 hrs:

The markets are trading strong on the back of buying seen in select index pivotals. At 10.54 am IST, the Sensex is up 93.43 points or 0.80% at 11712.95, and the Nifty up 27.10 points or 0.80% at 3428.2.

About 1350 shares have advanced, 451 shares declined, and 58 shares are unchanged.

Top gainers on the indices are BHEL up 1.84%, HDFC Bank up 1.71% and ITC up 1.55% and IPCL up 1.89%

Top losers on the indices are Grasim down 0.24%, Jet Airways down 0.23%, Hindalco down 0.14% and BPCL down 0.01%.

Index heavyweight Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 240.80 up 0.42% from its previous close of Rs 239.80.

Index heavyweight Reliance was trading at Rs 1,126.85 up 0.43% from its previous close of Rs 1,122.05.

Tech major Infosys was trading at Rs 1,786.05 up 0.92% from its previous close of Rs 1,769.80.

Cigarette major ITC was trading at Rs 183.00 up 1.55% from its previous close of Rs 180.20.

Refinery major HPCL was trading at Rs 269.20 down 0.15% from its previous close of Rs 269.60.

Sensex @ 0957 hrs;

The markets have opened on positive note, as global cues were positive due to crude prices fell to $70.61 per barrel. At 9:57 am, the Sensex was up 81 points at 11701. The Nifty was up 25 points at 3426.

Infosys, SBI, TCS, BHEL, Gujarat Amb Cements, HPCL, BPCL, Bajaj Auto, Nalco, HCL Tech, ICICI Bank, Cipla, Ranbaxy, Suven Life, Hindalco, Tata Steel, HDFC, Tata Power, Reliance, HLL, ONGC, VSNL and ITC were trading higher.

Asian markets were trading higher today as a rally by US shares boosted sentiment; Japan's Nikkei gained 0.96% or 151.63 points at 15,914.22.

FIIs were net buyers of USD 14.6 million and MFs net buyers of Rs 194 crore (Rs 1.94 billion) in equity on August 25.

Wall Street rebounded as energy prices fell; the Dow jumped 67.96 points, or 0.60%, to 11,352.01, recovering somewhat from last week's loss of 0.86%.

A sweet crude tumbled USD 1.90 to USD 70.61 on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
