Anil Ambani-spearheaded Reliance Communications Ltd will on Thursday launch online video streaming on mobile phones, a service that would allow the company to mobile cast events to all its subscribers.

The launch will be kickstarted by a mobile cast of Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer's keynote address, which can be viewed by millions of Reliance mobile customers across the country, company sources said.

RCL is believed to be looking at video streaming of popular events in a big way and use the mobile device to transmit single location events to millions of its subscribers across the country.

Company sources said that while similar initiatives have been tried in developed countries, the potential in India could be exponentially higher due to the geographic and demographic characteristics.

RCL is also reportedly contemplating tying-up with event management companies to bring in event video streaming on Reliance mobile phones.

Sources also said that a Microsoft zone is being hosted on Reliance Mobile World, the digital mobile portal, which currently hosts over 2,300 applications.

The company recently claimed that it has over 11 million subscribers regularly visiting the portal for content across categories.
