"Money continues to rank as top priority for 'Generation Y' and more than 80 per cent of respondents believe that level of salary in relation to experience affects workplace productivity," according to findings by TeamLease Services in its latest survey 'Personal Attributes Affecting Workplace Productivity' as part of its study series to understand 'India's New World of Work'.
This re-establishes the phrase 'money makes the world go round', it adds.
The study was undertaken across key cities in India and enlisted various personal attributes that affect productivity at workplace, and how employees feel about the same.
However, touching upon other interesting aspects, the survey also
reveals that spouse's attitude towards career and relationship with other people at work also affects productivity.
Most of the respondents in Hyderabad believe that relationship-based attributes affect productivity, but only one fourth in Mumbai and Pune agree with this thought.
"While we were aware to some extent that appearance, marital status, relationship with colleagues, gossip mongering, etc. do affect productivity in some or the other way, the study sheds light on some other lesser known aspects too," says Sangeeta Lala, vice president Teamlease Services.
Today's workplace environment is undergoing a constant change and it is important for companies and employees alike to adapt fast, Lala adds.
Gossip mongers, health issues in personal life and emotional issues have negative impact at workplace and affect productivity, the study reveals.
However, the study also reveals that working with the opposite gender and marital status does not affect productivity.
