The Bhartiya Janata Party has questioned Finance minister P Chidambaram's comment that cartelisation by some politicians has led to increase in prices of essential commodities and other items like steel, iron and cement.

The newly elected member of the Rajya Sabha from Maharashtra and spokesman of the party P Javadekar said in New Delhi. "While Chidambaran made this claim, Jitin Prasad, the minister of state for steel denied in writing that there was any such thing. Now, who is telling the truth?" Javadekar asked.

Meanwhile, BJP president Rajnath Singh has constituted a high level committee of politicians to chalk out strategy how to raise the issue of price rise effectively so that maximum mileage could be achieved.

The
committee members are Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley, Balbir Punj, Vijay Goel, Ravi Shankar Prasad and Javadekar. "On Monday, the National Democratic Alliance would take a decision on starting a countrywide campaign against price rise," he said.

The party is planning to reach out to the farmers who are not covered under the central government's waiver scheme.

The drive would be called Kisan Panchayat. The party would hold national executive meet in the last week of May and first week of June. "The tentative dates are May 30, June 1 and 2," Javadekar said.
