Oracle is positioning its 11i database suite (commercially repackaged for small and medium firms) and E-Business Suite Special Edition (with reduced implementation time) as products for the segment, Oracle India general manager (sales) Ram Varanasi said on Friday.
"We feel that the SMB sector holds the single biggest opportunity, both in database and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) segments, as this sector had expanded its base in the last 10-15 years," he said.
Over 70 per cent of the companies in the country are positioned in this segment, posting a 15 per cent year-over- year growth, he said, adding, the companies in this segment "are also increasingly adopting information technology for their day-to-day operations".
The software major is targeting auto components and suppliers, textile and garments, pharmaceuticals and chemicals and infrastructure and development verticals in the SMB segment, he said.
However, Varanasi did not provide any figures on the expected revenues from the SMB sector, even though he mentioned it would be of "commendable" size.
Oracle India has also bagged eight new customers in the country in the last quarter for its Oracle E-Business Suite Special Edition.
The customers are Chiron Panacea Vaccines (Mumbai), Rucha Engineers Pvt Ltd (Ahmedabad), Xoriant Solutions Pvt Ltd (Mumbai), Electronika Sales Corporation (Chennai), Market Rx India Pvt Ltd (Gurgaon), Pon Pure Chem Private Ltd (Chennai), Birlasoft India Ltd (Noida) and Claas India Ltd (Delhi).
Oracle E-Business Suite Special Edition is a packaged offering of the company's applications product suite Oracle E-Business Suite.
The suite, which consists of several modules of Oracle E-Business Suite, is simple to install and implement and meets the requirements of mid-market companies for rapid implementation and measurable return on investments, Varanasi said.
